Home Maintenance and Repair

Tips for doing your own home maintenance and repair
Do It Yourself Roofing
I have done roofing for about 15 years. I actually started out in residential remodel and have had the opportunity to do everything from pouring the concrete to putting the roof on and everything in between. I have installed all kinds of different roofs, composition, multi-dimensional composition, torch down, cold app, wood shingle, and tile.
I can tell you even teach how to repair and install everyone of these roofs, but I am not going to do it and here are my reasons why.
When it comes repairing roofs that have leaks there a dozen different places that one leak can come from.
When it comes to replacing shingles of any kind on any roof you absolutely should not try it with out experience. There are bunch of things that can go wrong.
Roof pitches very from flat to very steep and every one of them can kill you with a fall. Yes even the flat roof can be so slick that you could slip fall and hurt yourself. ( One boss I worked for had a saying," When you fall your fired before you hit the ground.")
Last but not least roofing is with out a doubt one of those projects you will regret tackling, a professional will cost you less in the long run.
I know you die hard do it yourselfer are going to try to do your own roofing repairs no matter what I say, so a couple of things just for you.
Statistics show that you have a 50% chance of death from a 6 foot fall. So imagine how those statistics change when you are 8,10,even 12 feet in the air. Make sure you have life insurance before you risk your life on any of these home repair tasks, but especially roofing.
At the very least get help from a friend in the trade. If you don't have one get one.
Please before you get on the roof have someone there to call the ambulance.
